Non-Surgical Treatment Options

HIFU Therapy

High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound for targeted tumor destruction without surgery.

93% success rate for qualifying patients

High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) is a non-invasive medical procedure that uses focused ultrasound waves to generate heat and destroy targeted tissue, such as tumors, without damaging surrounding healthy tissue. This technique is particularly well-suited for localized tumors that are accessible to ultrasound energy and where precise targeting is crucial. HIFU offers benefits like minimal invasiveness, reduced risk of side effects compared to surgery or radiation, and a quicker recovery time for appropriately selected patients.

Cryoablation

Cryoablation is a minimally invasive procedure that uses extreme cold, typically delivered through thin needles called cryoprobes, to freeze and destroy abnormal tissue, including cancerous tumors. This process causes cell death and the gradual shrinkage of the treated area as the body clears away the dead cells. Cryoablation is often best suited for patients with small, localized tumors in organs such as the kidney, lung, liver, breast, and bone, particularly when surgery is not a viable option due to the tumor's location, size, or the patient's overall health. It can also be used to alleviate pain and other symptoms caused by tumors that have spread.

Histotripsy

Histotripsy is a non-invasive cancer treatment that uses focused ultrasound waves to mechanically destroy tumors. It works by generating microbubbles within the targeted tissue, which rapidly expand and collapse, creating forces that break down the tumor cells. Currently FDA-approved for liver tumors (both primary and metastatic), histotripsy is particularly suited for patients with small (typically under 4 cm and no more than three), well-defined tumors in accessible locations within the liver, especially when surgery or other ablative therapies pose increased risks or have been ineffective.

Radiotherapy

Radiotherapy is a cancer treatment that uses high doses of radiation to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors by damaging their DNA. It can be delivered externally using machines that focus radiation beams on the tumor or internally via radioactive implants or liquids. Radiotherapy is best suited for localized tumors that haven't spread, as the radiation targets a specific area. It can be used as the primary treatment for some cancers, before surgery to shrink tumors, after surgery to kill remaining cancer cells, or to relieve symptoms of advanced cancer. Certain cancers like skin, head and neck, prostate, and early-stage lymphomas tend to respond well to radiation therapy. The suitability of radiotherapy also depends on the tumor's location, size, and proximity to healthy tissues, as well as the patient's overall health.
